Meeting finds resolution to proposed march over Auckland Harbour Bridge

1 min read

A meeting between Police, Transit New Zealand and the leaders of a h??koi has found a solution that was agreed to by all parties.

North Shore Area Commander, Inspector Mike Hill says, "It was always the position of Police and Transit New Zealand that the group could not walk across the bridge."

A kaum?¤tua from the District Commander's Maori Advisory Group, (Tutahitanga) attended the meeting. Inspector Hill says, "The kaum?¤tua was instrumental in bringing about a solution that was acceptable to the aims of the h??koi leader."

"I appreciate the way in which there was an open discussion and an understanding shown by all parties that took the tension out of the situation," says Inspector Hill.

Police stopped the group walking over the Auckland Harbour Bridge yesterday. The group was escorted across the bridge in their cars by police and today's meeting concluded that would signify the crossing of the bridge for the h??koi.
