Child killed following driveway collision in Paremoremo

1 min read

At around 1.45pm this afternoon a man was working on a driveway at his residential property in Lucas Heights, Paremoremo.

?

He was driving a 1.5 tonne roller to compact loose shingle on the driveway.

?

A 2 year-old child from the address was struck by the roller as the driver reversed.

?

The child was rushed to Starship Hospital but tragically died soon after.

?

A Police Serious Crash Unit investigation is now underway.

?

"We're looking into how this tragedy occurred. The driver is a relative of the child and what I can say is that he's absolutely distraught. ?He and the child's family are being supported by Victim Support" says Constable Paul Hayward, Waitemata Serious Crash Unit.

?

It is too soon as this stage to say whether the driver will be charged and any decision on this will not be made for at least several weeks.

?

The name of the child is not expected to be released today and no further details will be released tonight.
