At 6.01pm this evening Police were advised of an emergency at the Hunua Falls swimming hole, south of Auckland.?
? A group of young people were swimming when a young man in their group found himself in difficulty.? ? A friend of his and two members of the public attempted to come to his aid, but despite their efforts, the young man went underwater and did not surface. ? Emergency services were called to the scene, including the Westpac Rescue Chopper.? ? The friend who had tried to reach the missing man was taken to Middlemore Hospital, where he is now in a status 3 condition.? ? The young man has sadly not been found and the Police National Dive Squad has been deployed and are on their way from Wellington.? ? The Hunua Falls swimming hole and the track into the area will be guarded overnight and there will be no access into the site in the meantime.? ?
