As the investigations into Tuesday night's incident where a man was wounded after shooting at Police near Kerepehi continue, the Waikato's Police commander says things are progressing enough to allow life for local residents to return back to normal. ? Acting Superintendent Greg Nicholls, said the scene examination of the area on SH2 where the shooting took place progressed significantly enough to allow the re-opening of the highway late yesterday afternoon. ? "We were aware of the disruption the closure of such a major route posed to transport operators, school bus services and local residents but given the seriousness of Monday night's incident and that it is now the subject of three on-going investigations, it was important to do it once and do it right. ? "The latest update on the condition of the 50-year-old male offender at the centre of the investigations is that he is currently in a serious but stable condition in Waikato Hospital's High Dependency Unit." ? Mr Nicholls said a forensic examination of the property at Kerepehi linked to Tuesday night's incident has been completed and the property will be handed back today.? ? "Members of the investigation teams will continue to speak to local residents and witnesses today." ? End ?
