At least two vehicles are involved in a crash on SH 73, Waimakariri Gorge Road, in the Selwyn District.
Emergency services were notified at 4:15pm, and at least one person appears to have serious injuries.
The Serious Crash Unit has been advised.
Diversions are in place off SH 73 at Curve Road and Pinegrove Road.?The road is not suitable for heavy vehicles.
Motorists could consider using Old West Coast Road as an alternate route.
