State Highway 31(Kawhia Road), near Otorohanga is closed as Fire and Emergency NZ work to put out a vegetation fire.

The fire began following a crash involving three vehicles at 2.50pm today.?

One of the vehicles caught fire after the crash, and the fire spread to one of the other vehicles involved, as well as surrounding vegetation.

One person has reportedly sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash, and two people have moderate injuries.?

Diversions are in place and motorists are asked to follow the directions of signage/emergency personnel in the area.?

At this stage we expect the road to remain closed for at least the next few hours.?
