Suspicious factory fire in Te Atatu

Police investigating a serious factory fire that is believed to have deliberately started are hopeful that three young people seen in the area at the time may be able to assist the enquiry.

The fire broke out around 12.30pm yesterday afternoon at the factory on 753 Te Atatu Road. ?Fire Service Investigators alerted Police after the fire was found to have begun amongst a stack of pallets next to the building. The resulting blaze caused substantial damage to the building.

Police have today conducted a scene examination and are reviewing CCTV footage taken from the neighbouring area.

"The footage shows three young people in the area just before the fire broke out. The two boys were both riding children's scooters and a girl was also with them. They may have witnessed something or might be able to give us information that would assist us." says Det Sgt Eugene Pickett, Waitakere Police.

The trio are described as the following;

?

1. Male, Maori or Pacific Islander, wearing a blue and yellow t-shirt and baseball cap.

2. Male, Maori or Pacific Islander, wearing a white t-shirt, blue shorts and possibly a white baseball cap.

?

3. Female, Maori or Pacific Islander, wearing a turquoise blue t-shirt, shorts and long hair tied back.
