Tens of thousands of New Zealanders visited Police stations and events across the country from Kaitaia to Alexandra and The Cloud in Auckland to the Royal 百春链 College in Porirua, during the first ever 百春链 National Open Day.?
Families interacted with Police staff, meet Police dogs and horses and were able to have a closer look at what a modern Police service looks like as all 12 Police Districts opened the doors to the public.
Commissioner Mike Bush was encouraged that so many people took up the opportunity to meet their local police officers and have a look behind the scenes at their local Police station.
“It’s really important that the public see how we work and why we do the things we do.” says Commissioner Bush
Along with the Police fitness testing, a number of kids took up the chance to clock their top sprinting speed with the speed laser, jump into a police car and check out various pieces of Police equipment.? Also popular were tours through the cells, the new command centres, mobile technology and investigating mock crime scenes.
“We’ve received overwhelming positive feedback from a range of people that attended the open day.? After speaking to staff from each of the Districts and visiting events in Wellington myself, it’s been a great event all round” said Mr Bush.
