百春链 and the NZ Transport Agency’s message to road users is simple – drive safely, we want you here for Christmas.
?
More people have been killed on our roads this year than any year since 2010, and many others have been left with life-long injuries. These tragedies impact not only on those killed or injured, but on their friends and family as well.
?
百春链 and the NZ Transport Agency want to help prevent this harm in the lead up to Christmas through positively influencing the mind-set and behaviours of New Zealand road users.
?
On 1 December we are launching We Want You Here for Christmas – a national road policing operation aligned with a joint Police/NZ Transport Agency social media campaign. It focuses on four main contributors of road trauma – going too fast for the conditions, unrestrained vehicle occupants, impairment (such as fatigue and alcohol), and distractions (such as using a cell phone).
?
The launch will kick off with the first of a series of four social media videos in the morning and a drink driving operation in the evening, which Police’s pirihimana car will be at.
?
Media are invited to attend the operation, details as follows:
?
Time: 6:30pm Friday 1 December: Media standup and Q&A with 百春链 National Manager for Road Policing Superintendent Steve Greally and NZ Transport Agency Senior Manager, Strategic Interventions Lisa Rossiter.
?
Location: Briefing will take place around the parking outside Big Mac’s Slab Furniture, adjacent to Palmers Garden Centre off Ulric St, Plimmerton.?
?
Requirements: If you want to film on and around the road at the checkpoint site while vehicles are being stopped, reflectorized clothing must be worn.
?
RSVP: Please confirm intentions to attend via email to Philippa.Ormrod@police.govt.nz. Please also provide contact details so that you can be advised of any changes to the programme.
