Appeal for information after hit and run, Mangakakahi

Rotorua Police are appealing for the public’s help after a hit-and-run incident this afternoon that left a man critically injured.

Emergency services were called to Edmund Road at around 2.15pm after a report of a crash involving a motorbike and a pedestrian.

The motorbike then left the scene without stopping.

The pedestrian was located with injuries and he was transported to hospital in a critical condition.

Police investigating a fatal crash on the Desert Road/State Highway 1 on Saturday 7 June are seeking information from witnesses.

The crash was reported to Police just before 1:10pm.

We’re interested to hear from anyone who saw a yellow Suzuki Swift travelling southbound on State Highway 1 near Turangi at around 1pm.

This includes any dashcam or CCTV footage that could assist our enquiries.

Fatal Crash, Station Road, Poroporo

Police can confirm one person has died following a serious crash in Poroporo overnight.

At around 10pm, emergency services were called to a single-vehicle crash on Station Road near Butler Road.

Sadly, one person was located deceased at the scene.

Three other people were transported to hospital in a serious condition.

The road was closed while the Serious Crash Unit conducted a scene examination.

Station Road reopened at around 4.20am this morning.

Fatal crash, SH1, Desert Road

One person has died following a crash on the Desert Road this afternoon.

Police were called to a two-vehicle crash on State Highway One at around 1.10pm.

Sadly, one person was located deceased at the scene.

The road remains closed while the Serious Crash Unit conducts a scene examination.

Motorists are advised to follow diversions and expect delays.

Man due in court following crash, Pongakawa

A man will be appearing in court next week in relation to the death of a man following a crash in Pongakawa.

The single-vehicle crash happened around 8:45pm on Tuesday 3 June on Maniatutu Road.

It was not reported to Police at the time, and the driver and the passengers of the vehicle made their own way home to their addresses in the area.

Around 4:30am on 4 June, the driver of the vehicle and flatmate of one of the passengers in the car located the passenger deceased at their home.

Woman seriously hurt in hit-and-run incident

Police are working to locate the driver of a red ute involved in a hit-and-run crash that left a woman seriously injured in Rotorua last night.

The crash happened about 9pm, near the intersection of Haupapa Street and Tuanekai Street.

After striking the victim, the vehicle drove east on Haupapa Street towards Fenton Street, Detective Sergeant Philip Wilkinson said.

The vehicle involved was still being sought by Police.

Name release: Tokoroa homicide

Police can now release the name of the man who died after sustaining serious injuries in Tokoroa on 27 May.

He was 30-year-old Rapana (Raaps) Tukuru Tahana-Heretini, of Tokoroa.

Police are still seeking any information from witnesses, including CCTV footage from Abercorn Place at around 4:15am on Tuesday 27 May.

Prolific shoplifter sentenced to two years' imprisonment

A prolific Tauranga shoplifter has been sentenced to two years in prison after being convicted of 37 shoplifting charges dating back to 2024.

Police Commissioner Richard Chambers said it was the result of outstanding investigative work by an officer in the Tauranga Retail Crime Unit.

The officer began his investigation based on a single shoplifting report that came through Auror, with no offender identified and no real lines of enquiry.

Fatal crash: Te Puke

A man has died this morning, following a crash on Maniatutu Road, Te Puke last night.

Police were called to an address in Te Puke this morning after a man was located deceased. It was later discovered that he was involved in a crash last night.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash and the death are ongoing.
