Police put the brakes on scooter thief

Good police work intercepted an alleged thief looking for an easy ride in Auckland early this morning.

Around 3am two offenders arrived at a warehouse on Taylors Road, Morningside.

“The van both offenders were travelling in was used to force its way through roller doors at the address, damaging them enough to gain entry,” Auckland City West Area Prevention Manager Inspector Wayne Kitcher says.

Both offenders entered the address and took several large boxes containing e-scooters before driving away.

Motorists are being advised to expect delays citybound from Greenlane this morning following a vehicle breakdown.

The incident, between Greenlane and Market Roads, was reported to Police at about 6.30am.

Road users are advised to expect delays or consider alternative routes to the CBD.

Night shift staff pursued a lead that led to a great catch for Mt Wellington Police this morning.

At around 3.20am, units were patrolling near Penrose Road when they stopped a vehicle.

“Once stopped the officers noticed a strong smell of cannabis coming from inside,” Auckland City East Area Prevention Manager, Inspector Rachel Dolheguy says.

“A search of the vehicle was invoked and resulted in a guitar case containing an unloaded military style pump action shotgun was located in the boot.”

Update: Missing woman located

Police can advise a woman missing in central Auckland has been located.

The 60-year-old had gone missing this morning, and has since been located in the Grafton area.

She is safe.

Police thank the public for sharing our appeal today.

Man arrested after shots fired on Karangahape Road

A 21-year-old man is facing serious injury and firearms-related charges after an incident in central Auckland early today.

At around 3.50am Police attended an incident on Karangahape Road where several shots were fired.

As a result two persons received injuries to their leg and foot which required medical attention.

A short time later, Police located the alleged offender and firearm. The 21-year-old man was arrested and will appear in Auckland District Court tomorrow, 26 May, on serious injury and firearms-related charges.

Police are asking for the public's help finding Marilyn, who has been reported missing from the Ponsonby area.

The 14-year-old was last seen on 18 May and is described as about 175cms tall with brown eyes and brown hair.

Police and Marilyn’s family have concerns for her welfare and would like to find her as soon as possible.

Youth offenders caught red handed

A group of young people had their plans foiled after a break-in at Sylvia Park Shopping Centre last night.

Mall security reported a burglary taking place at 8.15pm.

“A group of offenders were seen breaking into a mobile shop inside Sylvia Park,” Auckland City East Area Prevention Manager Inspector Rachel Dolheguy says.

“They gained entry to the store via the rear door, where once inside they have smashed the cash register and stolen items.”

A timely response by Police led to the group being located at the back of the mall.

Cat-astrophe avoided after purrfect find in car engine

A member of the public narrowly avoided a complete cat-astrophe after hearing a funny noise coming from the engine of her vehicle.

Pizza thief can’t outrun city cameras

Police had all the bases covered after an offender stole pizzas in central Auckland on Monday night.

At around 9pm, the victim was walking to her accommodation with recently purchased pizzas on Mayoral Drive.

Auckland Central Area Commander, Inspector Grant Tetzalff, says the male offender approached the woman.

“He initially asked her to hand over the pizzas,” he says.

“When she refused, he walked away before returning and presenting a knife, demanding the pizzas.”

The victim handed over the pizzas unharmed, and the offender ran on foot.
