Fatal Crash, Jervois Street, Dargaville

Police can confirm one person has died following a serious crash this evening in Dargaville.

At around 5.20pm, Police were notified of a single vehicle crash on Jervois Street.

Despite best efforts from emergency services, one person died at the scene.

A scene examination has been completed and the road has reopened.

While enquiries into the crash are ongoing, initial indications suggest this is a suspected medical event and the death will be referred to the Coroner.

Public advisory: Search and Rescue training exercise in Northland

A controlled training exercise will be conducted in the Tangihua Ranges, Waiotira from Friday 13 through to Sunday 14 June.

The multi-agency exercise is being led by Police, with support from Land Search and Rescue and will simulate a land-based search and rescue scenario.

Police, along with other agency personnel, will be in the area during the course of the weekend.

Senior Sergeant Cliff Metcalfe, who is leading the search exercise, says: “Training is part of a controlled, routine training exercise and is not an emergency event.

Man charged with murder following Horeke homicide

A 73-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of a man in Horeke last month.

Daniel Hepehi, also known as Danny Whiston, was found with critical injuries at a property in Waikerikeri Road in the early hours of May 22.

Sadly, the 77-year-old died at the scene.

Detective Inspector Rhys Johnston, of Northland CIB, says Police have now charged a man with murder following an ongoing investigation.

“The accused will appear in Kaikohe District Court today via video link and we are not seeking anyone else in connection with this homicide.

One person has died following a serious crash in Northland this morning.

At around midnight emergency services were called to a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 1, near Waiomio, south of Kawakawa.

Sadly, one person died at the scene. Our thoughts are with their family at this difficult time.

The Serious Crash Unit has conducted a scene examination and the road is now open.

Horeke Homicide: Positive response to Police appeal

Northland Police investigating the death of Horeke man Daniel Hepehi are continuing to build a picture about events that led up to an incident at his property.

Detective Inspector Rhys Johnston, of Northland CIB, says the investigation team are working on fresh lines of enquiry following an appeal for information yesterday.

“We have a motivated team building a picture of what happened to Mr Hepehi and we continue to ask people with information to come forward,” he says.

Northland Police investigating the death of a Horeke man are seeking information from the public on the case.

Today, Police are also formally releasing the victim’s name.

Daniel Hepehi, also known as Danny Whiston, was found with critical injuries at a property in Waikerikeri Road in the early hours of May 22.

The 77-year-old sadly died at the scene.

Police are now appealing for sightings of Mr Hepehi on Wednesday May 21.

Attribute to Detective Senior Sergeant Christan Fouhy – Far North Area Manager Investigations

Police investigating the death of a 3-year-old girl in Kaikohe on Wednesday have charged a 45 year old man with her murder.

Police were called to an address on Tawanui Road on Wednesday night where the girl was located unresponsive.

We will continue our enquiries in the area over the next few days.

The man will appear in the Kaikohe District Court on Monday 26 May.

Fatal crash, Whangārei

One person has died after a truck collided with a power pole in Whangārei overnight.

The crash, at the intersection of Riverside Drive and Ewing Road, was reported to Police at 1.25am today.

The driver of the truck was the sole occupant.

Enquiries are under way into the circumstances of the crash.

Far North Homicide: Police reassure community

A homicide investigation is continuing into the death of a 77-year-old man in Horeke.

The investigation has been underway after the man was found critically injured at a property on Waikerikeri Road in the early hours of 22 May.

He sadly died at the scene.

Detective Inspector Rhys Johnston, of Northland CIB, says a scene examination is ongoing at a property on Waikerikeri Road.

“A team of 15 investigators are working on the enquiry, with Northland receiving support from other Police districts and from ESR scientists,” he says.
